Outgoing President's Final Address

June 14, 2024

Dear Members of the Mullingar Rugby Club Community,

As I step down from my role as President of Mullingar Rugby Club, I want to take a moment to reflect on the past few years and express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey.

From the challenging days of the Covid pandemic, where we worked tirelessly to ensure training and matches could continue safely, to celebrating our AGM at the Greville, it has been an eventful and rewarding period. The success of MRFC is built on the dedication and hard work of our passionate volunteers. To those who never say no, thank you for your unwavering commitment and enthusiasm.

I owe special thanks to our General Committee, especially Ita, Ciaran, and Mick. Terry has been my invaluable sounding board throughout my tenure. Our Rugby Committee, led by Tony, Youth Coordinator Ciaran, Mini Coordinator Denis, and Referee Coordinator Paul, has done outstanding work. Our CCRO Clare has made a significant impact in schools, and John Keane, our Club Person of the Year, has elevated MRFC’s profile locally and across Leinster. Liz, for your dedication in the bar and coffee shop, and the Murphys for their work in the Golf Classic, your contributions are deeply appreciated. To all our coaches, mentors, and parents, your time and effort for the betterment of our club are invaluable.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Tony, who supported me immensely when I took over.

Our membership has grown hugely by 38%. Our facilities have grown to match this, and the club ethos has never been stronger.

Looking at our achievements, the trophy collection, and our increasing numbers, it is evident that the club is in a strong position. Congratulations to our players and coaches. I believe our men’s, women’s, and youth teams will continue to thrive in the coming years.

It has been an honour and a privilege to lead the club. I am stepping down happy, knowing we are on the right path. I am delighted to pass the torch to Ciaran and Denis, who I am confident will excel in their roles. I hope to support them just as Tony supported me.

Thank you all for the opportunity to serve as your President. It has been an honour and a privilege.

Yours in Rugby,

Conal Fitzgerald
