Mick Lambe Inducted into Westmeath Hall of Fame

Mick Lambe, a longstanding member of Mullingar RFC, was honoured with a prestigious accolade on Thursday, 5th September, at the Westmeath Sports Awards in Mullingar Park Hotel. Mick was inducted into the Westmeath Hall of Fame, recognising his exceptional contribution to rugby and the community.

Upon receiving the award, Mick expressed his surprise and gratitude, stating, “I never expected an accolade like this. I’m happy to have volunteered with the club for so many years and take great pride in its development. It’s particularly special as the club celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.”

Mick Lambe’s Legacy

Mick’s journey with rugby began unexpectedly in 1975, when he was called to play as a hooker for Mullingar RFC’s thirds team. From that moment on, his passion for the sport flourished. Over the years, he played across various positions, primarily excelling in the back row.

Off the pitch, Mick's dedication to the club was unparalleled. From serving on the committee to becoming youth coach, Vice President, and eventually President of Mullingar RFC (2013-2015), his leadership was instrumental in significant club developments, including the groundwork for the AstroTurf pitch, which transformed training for all teams. His presidency culminated in an impressive 13 cups won in his final year.

Mick’s influence on nurturing young talent has been profound, guiding players who went on to represent Ireland at various levels. His legacy in fostering a supportive environment for youth development remains a cornerstone of Mullingar RFC’s success.

Mick Lambe’s induction into the Westmeath Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to a man whose unwavering commitment and leadership have shaped Mullingar RFC and the rugby community in Westmeath. Congratulations, Mick!
